Melissa Goldweitz, Senior Graphic Designer at Builder wanted an environmental portrait of Eric Brown, President of Artisan Homes for an article titled "One Door Closes, Another Opens" written by John Caulfield for the November 2007 issue.

p>We photographed Eric Brown as he headed out the door of The Cheuvront Building. Eric suggested the location as his company Artisan Homes built The Cheuvront Building. I really lucked out finding the doors set up in this configuration, so we used the mail room door behind him to illustrate the idea of the one door closing. We also photographed him in a series of motion shots for the lead photo in the article.

Lighting:
One Nikon SB800 outside the door in 12x15 Chimera softbox.
Triggered via Pocket Wizards.

Camera: Nikon D70s, 17-55mm lens (at 17mm)
Exposure: 1/4 sec @ f/11
Large flag to keep as much ambient light off of the subject as possible -- I had the subject try and stay still to reduce motion blur on his face, and he did a great job.

Photoshop: minimal work on the file, just a bit of saturation on the green tree and some minor level adjustments. I removed the rock we had in place to keep the mailroom door from closing, and the door stop from the main door that Eric is going through.

Motion on the door provided via the Photo Assistant pulling the door when I said "go."
