Andrew Popper, Senior Photo Editor at BusinessWeek called with an assignment to photograph Bill Bartmann, Motivational Speaker and the "The Billionaire Nobody Knows," for an article written by Susan Berfield.

Camera: Nikon D70s, ISO 400
Exposure: 1/40th/sec @ f/2.8

Lighting:
Main light: (2) Nikon SB-800's at 1/2 power about 40 feet from the subject, fired by Pocket Wizard. I also set up an additional edge light that I'll turn on or off throughout the day depending on if I want it to fire.

I like this technique, as it allows me to walk around and shoot from anywhere in the room and get a consistent look. If the subject moves closer or farther from the strobe, I can open or close the aperture accordingly. I spot meter the wall to determine the exposure I want to give it, in this case using the ambient lights hitting the walls in the background.
