Simone Tieber, Art Director for The Net Economy Magazine wanted an interesting Environmental Portrait of C. Gus Grant (age 81), President of FocusSystems, and founder of Sprint (and its President and CEO for eight years).
The story had to do with technology that would pinpoint a person's whereabouts inside or outside within 10 feet 90% of the time, so I had 3 targets mounted on foamcore... I scouted to find an area of desert in north Scottsdale and we went to work. The target in the back is hanging from a large boom arm and fishing wire.
Strobist / Lighting info: DynalitesHonda generator to run the lights in the desert.
Main light: medium Chimera, camera / subject right.
Edge light: 10" reflector, diffusion, 1/4 cto.
Target light: 10" reflector, diffusion, 1/4 cto.
Hasselblad 150mm lens with an 81B filter.
